A break room is one of the most integral parts of an office space, which is often overlooked. It is a place where employees can relax and take some time off to recharge, connect with one another and refuel with beverages, lunch or snacks. So, a break room must be inviting and foster an environment where everyone can mingle with each other. But how can you create such a space that makes your employees feel valued and simultaneously increases productivity? Below we have mentioned some must-have essentials that every office break room should have. Comfortable Sitting: Tables and chairs in an office break room give employees the space to sit down and have their meal during their lunch breaks. Tables in a break room also create a natural opportunity for your workers to engage with one another. Such conversations between employees can help in solving existing problems that they face. In addition, it can promote interpersonal connections and a great sense of teamwork. Furniture in break rooms makes it more inviting, so make sure this space says relaxation and not work! Free Coffee and Snacks: Providing free coffee and snacks in the break room are fun non-monetary perks, which is always appreciated by all employees. By offering free coffee and snacks to your employees, they will not only feel valued but will also have a stronger sense of connection with the organisation. Coffee works as a positive incentive for the employees, functioning as an added perk for the job. Also, having these items in the break room will cut down on employee’s taking overly long or frequent coffee breaks. But keep in mind, not everyone is a coffee lover, so having tea bags and hot water is also important to make sure everyone has access to what they want. Consider The Artwork: The one thing that is often overlooked by most employers is the design of break rooms. Differentiate it from rest of the office, do something to make it stand out. There are many things to design a break room, such as hanging up paintings to create a thought-provoking mural on the wall. You can also change the colour of the walls or the layout of the break room to make it feel like it’s a part of a different building. Differentiating the break room is important, as it will allow the employees to fully disconnect from their workspace and decompress. Games: Most companies often have indoor games in their break rooms, such as video games, Ping-pong tables and other type of pastime games. It helps employees to differentiate between the break room and the rest of the office. Games in a break room give employees a chance to unwind and engage in an activity that doesn’t stress them out. It was helpful when you said to add free coffee. My sister was telling me last night about how she wants to add new things to her breakroom at her office building, and she was wondering what would be a good idea to add. I'll make sure to pass this information along to her so that she can look into getting coffee to add to her breakroom.
